Snack: Best-ever chocolate chip cookies

I imagine there are a million and one “best-ever chocolate chip cookie” recipes out there. But these are really the best. The best I’ve ever tried, at least. (A sprinkling of fleur de sel at the very end might make them even better, if you’re into the whole savory-sweet pairing which, lets be honest, who isn’t?) The recipe comes from Booty Food, one of my all-time favorite cookbooks and the source of some of the best recipes I’ve ever tried. This is a fairly standard cookie recipe, but the simplicity makes them perfect. A warning: if you give someone these cookies, they will request them again and again.

These cookies bring all the boys to the yard, is what I’m sayin’.

Chocolate-chip cookies
{recipe via Booty Food}

1 1/2 cups unsifted flour
1/2 teaspoon baking soda
1/4 teaspoon salt
1 stick (8 tablespoons) butter, softened
1/3 cup sugar
1/2 cup firmly packed brown sugar
1 teaspoon vanilla
1 egg
8 ounces high-quality semi-sweet chocolate chips

1. Preheat the oven to 375 degrees. Combine flour, baking soda and salt in a small bowl.
2. beat the butter, sugar and brown sugar in the bowl of an electric mixer (or just use a hand-mixer) until creamy. Add the egg and vanilla and beat until blended. Working in batches, add in the flour mixture and stir until incorporated. Stir in the chocolate chips (plus walnuts, or dried cherries, or whatever you like.)
3. Form the dough into teaspoon-sized balls and bke on a nonstick cookie sheet for 10-12 minutes, or until golden brown.
4. Serve to very lucky friends or eat the entire batch yourself.
